Quick start

Controls
Use the joystick to move, crouch and jump. The six attack buttons are weak, medium and strong punch, then weak, medium and strong kick. Taunt is a separate action. Super Combo and Alpha Counter inputs are character-specific and require the stated meter level; console CPS Changer button labels are not used here.

Street Fighter Alpha adds another layer of resource decisions to its punches, kicks and special techniques. The super bar has levels, and stronger Super Combos require a larger commitment of that stored power. Alpha Counters use a meter level to respond from a blocking situation, giving defense its own claim on the same resource. Throws, throw escapes and a recovery roll broaden the choices at close range or after a knockdown. Learn a fighter's normal attacks and one dependable special before chasing high-level combinations. The practical challenge is recognizing when spending meter will solve the situation you are actually facing.
