Quick start

Controls
Touch an empty intersection and confirm placement as shown. Placed stones stay where they are until captured; they are not moved like chess pieces. Use the displayed pass or end controls only at the appropriate stage.

Go begins with an empty board and grows into a contest of connected groups and surrounded space. Place stones on intersections, keep your groups' liberties open and capture opposing stones by closing their last liberty. The important question is not just where to attack but whether a group can live after the next few moves. Connect weak stones before starting a distant fight, and compare the territory each side can secure. Passing belongs to the end of a settled position, not to avoiding an unfinished local problem. Start a solo match slowly and learn the placement confirmation before judging a whole-board plan.
