How to Play Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: DragonStrike

Quick start

Choose the Bronze Dragon for the easiest introduction: it has balanced movement and durability, A fires lightning, and B releases gas that can paralyze targets. In Mission 1, continue generally north and destroy the three white dragon scouts while keeping enough distance to turn and fire safely. Stay high to clear much of the terrain, then descend only when ground targets must be hit. Because forward movement never stops and turns are broad, begin turning before reaching obstacles or the edge of a target area.

Controls

D-pad Left/Right: turn the dragon. D-pad Up: move to the low flight plane. D-pad Down: move to the high flight plane. A: fire the dragon's primary attack. B: fire its secondary breath or projectile. Start: pause. The dragon always moves forward; attacks differ by mount—Bronze uses lightning and gas, Silver uses ice balls and ice breath, and Gold uses two offensive fireball patterns.

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: DragonStrike — About this game

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: DragonStrike for NES recasts the computer game's dragon-riding premise as a free-roaming overhead shooter. After a mission briefing, the rider and metallic dragon fly forward continuously across a battlefield, turning through wide arcs, shifting between high and low altitude, and completing objectives such as hunting enemy scouts, sinking fleets, destroying fortresses, and fighting large bosses. Bronze, silver, and gold dragons trade speed, armor, and attack behavior, while two separate breath buttons provide direct damage, paralysis, or alternate projectiles depending on the chosen mount. The campaign contains fourteen missions and three difficulty settings.
