How to Play Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of the Lance
Quick start
Open the menu with Select before moving and reorganize the party. A durable fighter such as Caramon should lead, while Raistlin and Goldmoon should stay among the first four positions so their spells remain available. Hold Up or Down at a marked doorway instead of tapping it. Use downward attacks on low enemies and upward attacks on flying targets, and make running jumps across pits. Save in separate slots before dangerous drops, dragons, or any section where an essential spellcaster is still healthy.
Controls
Left/Right: walk; hold to run. At a doorway, hold Up or Down to enter. Up+A while standing: jump in place. Down+A: duck. While running, press A or Up for a long jump. In combat, B attacks; facing direction+Up+B attacks high, and facing direction+Down+B attacks low. Select opens or closes the menu. In menus, use the D-pad to move, A to confirm, and B to cancel.
Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of the Lance — About this game
Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes of the Lance is a side-view action RPG based on the opening Dragonlance adventure. Eight companions enter the ruins of Xak Tsaroth, but only the front hero appears in the corridor; party order determines who fights next and whether Raistlin's wizard magic or Goldmoon's clerical magic can be used from the front rank. Progress depends on learning its unusual directional controls: doors require a held vertical input, gaps require a running long jump, and attacks must be aimed high or low for different enemies. The quest ends with the black dragon Khisanth and the recovery of the Disks of Mishakal, with menu-based save slots supporting careful exploration.
