How to Play Age of Empires: The Age of Kings
Quick start
Start the Joan of Arc tutorial campaign with Escort to Chinon. Read Jean de Metz’s movement instructions, guide Joan along the road, defeat the blocking enemy and reach the destination castle. Continue the tutorial missions for unit matchups, then learn villagers, mills and the Town Center in From Peasant to General. Check every unit before ending a turn and use START to save between decisions.
Controls
Tap units and orders, or move the cursor with the D-pad and confirm with A. B cancels or displays a unit’s movement and attack reach. R jumps to an available unit; L changes the upper-screen display and Y shows the minimap. X opens the Empire menu, including End Turn. START opens general options/save, while SELECT opens game settings.

The DS Age of Kings turns the empire series into a grid strategy game where each side plans a full turn. Villagers build the economy, military buildings train forces and research unlocks advances through the ages. Five civilizations bring different heroes and unit choices, with infantry, cavalry, archers and siege weapons requiring balanced use. Roads, terrain and enemy reach influence each advance. Campaign objectives include escorts and town building as well as combat, so protecting a key unit can matter more than eliminating every enemy.
