How to Play Al Unser Jr. Turbo Racing
Quick start
Choose World Grand Prix and use the Al Unser Jr. name for a fully upgraded beginner-friendly car, or enter a new name to build one from 20 points. Read Al's course advice, run a practice lap, then qualify. Hold A to accelerate, shift with up/down, and reserve turbo for straights. Watch fuel and damage messages; after the P markers, steer right into the pit lane. Select refuel, repair, or both with A, then choose Pit Out. A top-six finish earns points for the next race.
Controls
Left/right steers. Up shifts through three gears; down downshifts. Hold A for the accelerator and B for the brake. Hold up together with A while in third gear to engage turbo, which lasts only while up remains held and fuel is available. Start begins or pauses. In practice, stop the car and press Select to end the run. Menus use the D-pad, A, and Start; pit choices are confirmed with A.
Al Unser Jr. Turbo Racing — About this game
Al Unser Jr. Turbo Racing is Data East's single-player NES racing game built around a sixteen-country Grand Prix series. You can practice, qualify for a grid position, and compete over multi-lap races while allocating earned points to speed, acceleration, durability, suspension, pit-crew speed, and turbo. Manual shifting gives the car three gears plus a fuel-dependent turbo state. Finishing in the top six awards championship and upgrade points, while pit stops are required to refuel and repair enough damage to remain competitive across the circuit.
