First, select "TOWER STORY", decide on the difficulty level and character, and proceed to Stage 1. Your character will automatically walk left and right on the scaffolding, so press A to fill up the jump gauge, then release it just before it's full to jump to the platform above. If you hold down too much, the gauge will start over and you'll be more likely to fall off the edge of the platform. In "SHAFT STORY", your first goal is to descend to the platform below by simply moving left and right, and avoid being caught up by the thorns approaching from above.

Select the menu with the cross button, confirm with A, and cancel with B. In TOWER, your character will automatically walk left and right, hold down A to build up jumping power, and release it to jump. In SHAFT, use the left and right arrow buttons to move and get down to the scaffolding below. Pose at START. Each mode can be selected from Story, Endless, Treasure, etc., and there are no fixed operations common to basic play in L, R, and SELECT.
