How to Play Area 88 (Japan)

Quick start

Choose one of the three pilots and their fixed aircraft.
Buy useful weapons or protection in the pre-stage shop.
Fire through the mission and use the purchased subweapon when needed.
Preserve health and prepare the next purchase with the money earned.

Controls

Joystick: move the aircraft. Shot action: fire the main weapon. Special Weapon action: use the purchased subweapon. The arcade shop sells equipment for the pilot’s aircraft.

Area 88 (Japan) — About this game

Area 88 (Japan) sends three mercenary pilots into side-scrolling missions with an aircraft tied to each character. The pre-stage shop sells special weapons and defensive equipment, paid for by destroying enemy aircraft and vehicles. A health reserve allows the fighter to take damage, but a difficult approach can exhaust it before the stage ends. Unused special weapons are converted back into money after a mission, making the purchase and use of equipment part of preparing for the following sortie.
