How to Play Athena
Quick start
- Move toward the first enemy and use Attack.
- Collect a dropped weapon or protective equipment.
- Use Jump to cross gaps and Up/Down at a vine to climb.
- With a hammer, break stone blocks to look for further supplies.
Controls
Move Left/Right, press Down to crouch and use Up/Down to climb a vine. Jump and Attack are separate actions. Attack uses the equipped weapon or the starting kick. A hammer can break stone blocks. The arcade jumping shoes enable higher jumps; the NES version’s permanent higher-jump behaviour is different.
Athena — About this game
Athena begins with a kick and develops her equipment through the journey. Weapons taken from enemies extend the available attack, while armour and shields protect the princess until damaged. The terrain has its own equipment requirements: a hammer can break stone blocks to uncover items, and the arcade’s jumping shoes improve access to higher routes. Choosing a useful weapon therefore affects both the next fight and which parts of the platform landscape can be explored.
