How to Play Chanbara (Japan)
Quick start
- Use the body lever to position the samurai.
- Choose a sword stance with the other lever.
- Hold the combined input long enough to attack or defend.
- Return to neutral before repeating the action and watch the other floor.
Controls
Two four-way levers: left controls the body, right the sword. With a sword direction chosen, left-lever Right attacks and Left defends; without a sword direction they move the samurai. Hold an input to complete the action, then return to neutral before repeating it.
Chanbara (Japan) — About this game
Chanbara (Japan) gives a student samurai separate controls for the body and sword. Moving toward an enemy while choosing a sword position produces an attack, while moving away with that position provides a defence. The dojo can be approached from two floors, requiring attention to enemies above as well as directly ahead. An action needs the lever position to be held long enough to complete; releasing early creates a feint. Returning to neutral before another input allows the next strike or guard.
