Fantasy Zone II lets Opa-Opa explore connected zones while hunting their enemy bases. The route scrolls in either direction, and warps opened behind bases lead to other parts of the level. Coins buy equipment in shops, with gun upgrades lasting for a limited time and special bombs supplied in limited quantities. Clearing all required bases opens the way to the boss. The System E arcade version adds a radar for the bases and a timer, so searching for the next warp also means keeping an eye on the remaining time.
