The Real Ghostbusters (US 2 Players) separates defeating a monster from capturing the ghost it leaves behind. Ordinary shooting removes the immediate threat, and the proton beam draws in its soul for an additional reward. Objects such as drums conceal weapon upgrades and protection, including Slimer as a helpful companion. Each stage ends with a boss whose defeat leaves the key to the next area. Keeping the route clear while taking time to capture ghosts gives the overhead action both a survival goal and a scoring opportunity.
