How to Play Killer Instinct
Quick start
- Choose a fighter and practise the three punch and kick strengths.
- Guard by holding away from the opponent.
- Use a familiar special to find an opening.
- Extend a confirmed hit carefully and learn that fighter’s Combo Breaker.
Controls
Joystick: move, jump and crouch; hold away from the opponent to guard. Three Punch and three Kick buttons: weak, medium and strong attacks. Facing right, Fulgore uses ↓↘→+Punch for Laser Storm, →↓↘+Punch for Plasmaslice and ↓↙←+Punch for Plasma Shield. Reverse horizontal directions when facing left.
Killer Instinct — About this game
Killer Instinct makes a fight last across two health bars, with no full recovery when the first is emptied. Its six attack buttons offer three strengths of punches and kicks, while an opening special can lead into automatic doubles and further links. A defender can interrupt an eligible sequence with a character-specific Combo Breaker. Building a longer attack therefore involves the risk of having it broken, alongside the usual decisions about range, guarding and which special move can begin the next opening.
