How to Play Mars
Quick start
- Use the movement joystick to position the ship.
- Point the firing joystick toward an enemy.
- Move clear of its approach while keeping the gun aimed.
- Adjust the firing direction for ground targets as the landscape scrolls.
Controls
The left eight-way joystick moves the ship. The right eight-way joystick fires in the selected direction, independently of movement. The original controls use the second joystick in place of a fire button.
Mars — About this game
Mars separates the ship’s movement from the direction of its gunfire. While the landscape scrolls past, the pilot can move away from a threat and keep shooting toward it with the second joystick. Ground targets require choosing a useful firing angle rather than relying only on a forward shot. The two independent directional controls make repositioning and attacking simultaneous decisions, particularly when an enemy has passed beside or behind the ship.
