How to Play Phantasm (Japan)
Quick start
- Possess one of the four opening characters.
- Learn that host’s available attack before approaching enemies.
- Collect useful power-ups along the route.
- Consider another host when the next stage introduces different enemies.
Controls
Move with the joystick. A attacks and B jumps; holding B longer changes jump height. Down+B drops through a platform. While in ghost form, approach an enemy and press A or B to possess it. The host determines your attacks and jumping abilities.

Phantasm (Japan) makes possession the way to acquire a different set of abilities. At the opening, the player can take over one of four characters, and the possible hosts expand and change as the stages progress. The current body determines how the next enemy or obstacle can be approached, so changing hosts is more than a visual transformation. Attacking, collecting power-ups and defeating bosses move the journey forward, while a new host can provide a better answer to the next part of the level. Learn the current host’s attack and jump before approaching the next enemy.
