How to Play Phoenix (Taito)

Quick start

  1. Shoot the opening diving birds while moving sideways.
  2. Hit a large bird’s body rather than relying on a wing hit.
  3. Activate the shield from a useful firing position.
  4. Shoot through the fortress defences toward its pilot.

Controls

Move left/right and Fire at the enemies above. Shield creates a temporary force field and stops movement while active; firing remains possible. Wait for recharge before another shield.

Phoenix (Taito) — About this game

Phoenix (Taito) alternates two waves of small diving birds, two waves of larger Phoenixes and a battle against a fortress. The large birds must be struck in the body: a damaged wing grows back if the centre remains intact. The fortress requires a path through its hull and rotating shield to reach the pilot. A temporary force field protects the player’s ship, but movement stops while it is active and another use must wait for recharge. Pick a position before shielding, then keep firing rather than expecting the field to move with an escape.
