How to Play Popeye (Japan)
Quick start
- Use the stairs and ladders to approach a falling item.
- Punch thrown hazards out of the way.
- Collect items before they remain too long at the bottom.
- Use spinach for a safe response to Brutus.
Controls
The four-way joystick moves Popeye and climbs stairs or ladders. Punch destroys harmful thrown objects. There is no jump action. Spinach temporarily protects Popeye and lets him knock out Brutus on contact.
Popeye (Japan) — About this game
Popeye (Japan) climbs between platforms to collect the hearts, notes or letters dropped by Olive Oyl. Items that reach the bottom cannot be left forever, creating a reason to descend into a risky area instead of waiting safely above. A punch destroys thrown hazards, but Brutus is a different problem: spinach supplies the temporary strength needed to drive him away or knock him out. Ladders and stairs replace the jumping familiar from other platform games, so an escape must follow the available connections. Plan a path to the next dropped item before Brutus cuts across it.
