How to Play Samurai Shodown V Special / Samurai Spirits Zero Special (NGH-2720, 2nd release, less censored)
Quick start
- Select a fighter and test the reach of A and B.
- Hold away from the opponent to guard an approaching attack.
- Reply with a slash when the opponent leaves an opening.
- With Haohmaru, practise Down, Down-Forward, Forward + Slash for the whirlwind projectile.
Controls
A is Light Slash, B Medium Slash, A+B Heavy Slash and C Kick. Hold D while standing with usable, non-maxed Rage to meditate. A+B+C activates Rage Explosion. Haohmaru, facing right: ↓↘→ + Slash performs Ougi Senpuu Retsu Zan; →↓↘ + Slash performs Ougi Kogetsu Zan. Reverse directions when facing left.

Samurai Shodown V Special makes spacing and the decision to commit to a sword stroke central to a duel. Light and medium slashes offer different openings from the heavy attack, while kicks and evasive actions provide alternatives at close range. Meditation trades some Rage energy for a better opportunity to use the later State of Nothingness. Choosing when to spend that resource matters alongside learning a character’s special moves and recognising an unsafe attack that leaves the opponent exposed.
