Quick start

Select a fighter and choose Slash or Bust.
Learn the reach of ordinary attacks and practise defence on the ground.
Press C and D together to start the added combination strike.
Learn its follow-up taps before relying on it in a close exchange.

Controls

C + D initiates the added combination strike and can be followed by its button sequence. Aerial blocking is unavailable, and the POW gauge cannot be charged manually. Each fighter and selected style has its own technique commands.

Samurai Shodown IV keeps the choice between Slash and Bust character styles while changing several defensive and offensive expectations. Aerial blocking is removed, and the POW gauge can no longer be filled by manually charging it. The added CD combination starts with a simultaneous C-and-D strike that leads into a sequence of follow-up button taps, giving the player another close-range offensive route. Returning swordsmen are joined by fire- and water-using Kazama brothers. Select a style, learn its reach and establish a grounded defence before attempting a long combination; an airborne guard habit from the previous entry will not protect the fighter here.
