How to Play Tecmo Bowl (Japan)
Quick start
- Position the receiver before the snap.
- Snap the ball to begin the play.
- Pass when the receiver is open.
- Control the runner after the catch or dive-tackle on defense.
Controls
Move with the joystick; rapid back-and-forth movement helps shake a tackler. Snap/Pass/Tackle/Kick is a context-sensitive action. Select changes the receiver or defensive position before play. Jump helps receive a pass or avoid a tackle.

The original arcade Tecmo Bowl fields the Wildcats against the Bulldogs across a wide playfield. A player on offense handles the quarterback and can send the ball to the blinking receiver; after the catch, control follows the runner. Human teammates can divide quarterback and receiver duties. On defense, positioning and a diving tackle stop the advance, while rapid joystick movement helps shake a tackle.
