How to Play VS. Gradius
Quick start
- Shoot the opening enemies and collect a power capsule.
- Watch the selection advance along the power-up meter.
- Activate the desired upgrade rather than waiting for an automatic change.
- Keep clear of terrain while learning the new weapon’s coverage.
Controls
Use the directional control to move the Vic Viper. Fire attacks enemies; the Power-Up action activates the ability currently highlighted on the meter. Collecting another capsule changes the highlighted choice. Exact button combinations and upgrade limits depend on this VS. conversion.
VS. Gradius — About this game
VS. Gradius brings Gradius to Nintendo’s VS. arcade format through a conversion of the Famicom game. The Vic Viper collects capsules that advance a highlighted choice along the power-up meter; activating the desired choice exchanges that progress for a new ability and resets the selection. That makes the next capsule a decision about future equipment, rather than an automatic weapon upgrade. Fight through the scrolling environments while learning how the chosen weapon reaches a target. The VS. release has its own credit sound, ending message and continue feature, and should not be described as identical to Konami’s original arcade board.
