How to Play Yamato (set 1)
Quick start
- Move left or right and watch both crosshairs.
- Use bullets against aircraft and missiles against boats.
- Allow for the missile’s travel delay.
- Shoot down or avoid incoming attacks before lining up the next target.
Controls
Horizontal movement moves the ship and both aiming marks together. Vertical aiming moves the bullet and missile crosshairs at different rates. Use the bullet action for aircraft and missile action for ships; missiles have a firing-to-impact delay.
Yamato (set 1) — About this game
Yamato (set 1) puts the player behind a ship’s guns, with separate aiming marks for aircraft and enemy vessels. Moving left or right shifts the ship and both crosshairs together, while vertical aiming changes the relationship between the two. Bullets handle aircraft and missiles handle boats, with the latter taking a moment to arrive. Enemy vessels answer with missiles and torpedoes that can be shot down or avoided. The different aiming responses make it worth learning both weapons before the screen grows busy; aiming successfully at a plane does not automatically line up a good missile shot at a ship.
