How to Play Arkanoid
Quick start
Choose one or two players, launch and aim by contacting the ball with different parts of Vaus. Take Slow, Expand and Catch while learning the layouts, but skip a capsule if the current ability is better. Gold walls cannot be destroyed and silver walls need repeated hits. When using Laser, keep moving under the ball instead of standing still to fire. Save Warp for a round that is draining lives.
Controls
Standard controller: Left/Right moves Vaus, A launches or releases the ball and fires lasers, and B is unused. SELECT changes the one- or two-player option; START begins and pauses. Dedicated Vaus controller: rotate the knob for horizontal movement and press Fire to launch or shoot. The manual instructs players to connect the Vaus unit to port 2 and keep the standard controller in port 1.
Arkanoid — About this game
The North American NES release of Arkanoid turns the classic brick-breaking formula into a science-fiction campaign across 33 rounds. Vaus moves along the bottom, returning an energy ball into colored walls, multi-hit silver walls and arrangements shaped around indestructible gold blocks. Floating enemies deflect shots, while capsules replace the current ability with effects such as Slow, Expand, Catch, three-ball Disruption, Laser, Warp or an extra Vaus. At the end, the fortress Doh fires at the paddle and needs sixteen ball hits. The release was designed for its rotary Vaus controller but also supports the standard NES pad, giving players a choice between analog-like precision and digital movement.
