How to Play Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles
Quick start
Begin in Aleppo and follow the opening route west, breaking urns along the way. Meet the dying Assassin to receive the sword, then use X or Y against the guards. Practice B jumps on the route ahead and hold R when a guard attacks. Follow the tutorial before attempting longer rooftop gaps.
Controls
DS buttons: D-pad moves, B jumps, A kicks, X or Y attacks with the sword, L crouches and R blocks. Moving while crouched performs a roll. START opens the pause menu. Pickpocketing and interrogation have their own touch-screen instructions; follow the gestures shown for those encounters.

Altaïr's Chronicles tells an earlier chapter of Altaïr's story in a DS action adventure built around defined routes through cities. Reaching a target involves climbing, jumping between rooftops and finding a path past guards rather than freely roaming a console-sized world. Sword attacks, kicks and blocking handle direct combat, while pickpocketing and interrogation use the touch screen in separate encounters. The search for the Chalice gives these journeys a common goal. Early in Aleppo, the game introduces movement and a sword before expanding the challenges, making the opening a chance to learn the timing of jumps and guarded attacks.
