How to Play Astérix
Quick start
Move right with the D-Pad, jump with A and punch enemies or A blocks with B. Build a steady rhythm rather than holding forward, as many platforms fall and enemy projectiles cross the landing point. Break A blocks when the route is safe; feathers restore health, potion gives a short invulnerable period and some hidden keys open bonus areas. Collect stars when they do not risk a life, but keep an eye on the timer. Against the final guard, jump over each charge, strike from behind and retreat before the thrown stars, repeating until the way to Obelix opens.
Controls
D-Pad Left/Right: walk; Down: duck; Up/Down also handles applicable ladders or vertical passages. A: jump. B: punch enemies and break marked blocks; hold a direction with B where running is available. Start begins and pauses/resumes the game. Select has no documented essential action in normal stages.
Astérix — About this game
Asterix for NES is a timed side-scrolling platform game based on the comic series. Obelix has been captured, so Asterix travels across four acts of European and Roman-world stages, punching legionaries and animals while negotiating pits, moving platforms, ice and other traps. Lettered A blocks conceal food, stars, magic potion or keys to bonus rooms, rewarding players who explore rather than simply run for the exit. Health is shown by helmet wings, potion grants temporary invulnerability, and Dogmatix can appear after a bone pickup to attack an enemy. The journey finishes with a boss guarding Obelix.
