How to Play Backyard Football
Quick start
Select Practice and try a running play first. Snap with A, move into open space and use a little turbo. Next choose a passing play and read the receiver labels. Once comfortable, choose Play Now for a prepared match or Pick-Up to select the field and team.
Controls
Use the D-pad to move. A snaps before the play, while holding A during a run uses limited turbo. With the quarterback in possession, B, L or R passes to the labelled receiver. On defence, B selects the player nearest the ball and R tackles. A kick takes two A presses: direction first, power second. START pauses. Touch alternatives include dragging to move, tapping the quarterback to snap and tapping a receiver to pass.
Backyard Football — About this game
This Nintendo DS edition makes American football approachable through short matches, a compact playbook and teams of familiar Backyard children and child-sized NFL players. You choose the play before controlling the quarterback, runner or defender, and the same input can change meaning after the snap. Practice lets you repeat the action from the same yard line without the usual clock and downs, making it useful for learning a pass and a kick. Pick-Up adds team and field selection, while Season provides a longer championship campaign.
