How to Play Backyard Sports: Rookie Rush
Quick start
Start with a pick-up game and choose a low difficulty. Tap a simple running play, learn which player you control and follow the opening action prompts. Next try a pass. When possession changes, check the active defender before chasing the runner; follow the meter carefully for kicks.
Controls
Tap the touch screen to choose a play. Use the D-pad for movement, and the current play's prompts for the snap, runner or receiver action. On defence, use the displayed player-change and tackle commands rather than the offensive receiver controls. Kicks use a meter, so watch its moving indicator before confirming. The exact face-button labels depend on the prompted action.
Backyard Sports: Rookie Rush — About this game
Rookie Rush gives American football a neighbourhood scale: seven children line up on each side of a short field, and a small set of plays keeps the action moving. On DS, the touch screen selects the next play before you try a run or send a pass into space. Defensive possessions ask you to identify your active player and close down the ball carrier. Comic power-ups can disrupt an otherwise straightforward drive. Pick-up games offer a manageable first match, while tournament and season play provide longer goals.
