How to Play Bad Street Brawler
Quick start
At the title screen choose the game type, then spend time in the punching-bag practice before each stage. Test A, B and A+B and remember which move occupies each input; press Start only when you can reproduce all three. In the street, keep enemies on one side instead of standing between groups. Walk in, land the safest long-reaching move, then retreat before the timer or a second attacker traps Duke. Some techniques work better on specific enemies, so switch between the three rather than repeating one attack blindly.
Controls
The D-pad moves Duke: left/right walks, up jumps and down crouches. A and B perform the two assigned Force Moves for the current stage; A+B together performs the third. The exact techniques change each round and are demonstrated in its practice section. Start exits practice and begins the stage, and pauses during combat. Select chooses one- or two-player mode at the title screen; the two-player game is alternating rather than simultaneous.
Bad Street Brawler — About this game
Bad Street Brawler is a side-scrolling beat-'em-up developed by Beam Software for the NES. Duke Davis crosses a series of city locations filled with punks, dogs, muggers and stranger opponents, losing a life if his vitality or the stage timer runs out. The unusual hook is its rotating move set: Duke knows fifteen Force Moves, but only three are assigned in each stage. A practice screen with a punching bag reveals the current A, B and A+B attacks before the real fight begins, so adapting to the available kicks, punches and grapples is essential.
