How to Play Chrono Trigger
Quick start
Start a new game, leave Crono's house and head north to Leene Square. After meeting Marle, speak to her, retrieve the pendant and return it. Explore the fair and talk to visitors until Lucca's demonstration is ready, then head to the north end. Follow the Telepod scene; pick up the pendant after Marle disappears to begin the journey beyond the fair.
Controls
DS default buttons: D-pad moves/selects; A talks, examines and confirms; B cancels and modifies walking/running according to settings. X opens the menu; START pauses. Hold L+R to attempt escape from eligible battles. Use the lower-screen menu shortcut icons or touch battle commands to select them. Movement and button assignments can be changed in settings; DS and Classic screen layouts differ.

Chrono Trigger begins at a cheerful fair and expands into a journey through different periods of the same world. Changes in one era can reveal consequences in another, so exploration is about both places and history. Combat uses time gauges and visible enemy positions; techniques can strike lines or areas, while compatible allies combine moves into stronger attacks. Choosing when to spend a ready turn matters alongside choosing a target. The DS edition provides lower-screen maps and touch shortcuts for menus and commands, keeping the adventure accessible without changing its central appeal: learning how a small party can change a seemingly fixed future.
