How to Play Contra 4
Quick start
Choose Arcade Mode, a character and Normal difficulty for the full campaign. In the opening Jungle stage, move right while firing and shoot the passing weapon carrier after the first small hill to collect the machine gun. Clear enemies on the platforms before jumping across. When an overhead rail appears, use X to grapple upward and check the upper screen before advancing. Hold R to practise aiming without walking into enemy fire.
Controls
In side-scrolling stages, D-pad moves and aims; B jumps; Y fires; X launches the grappling hook toward compatible rails. L switches carried weapons; A discards the active weapon. Hold R with a direction to aim while stationary. START pauses. The hook and stationary-aim functions are not used in the tunnel stages, whose forward-facing layout changes how you move and shoot.
Contra 4 — About this game
Contra 4 turns the two DS screens into a tall battlefield. Enemies can threaten you from above while you cross platforms below, so reading both halves of the scene is part of survival. The grappling hook reaches suitable overhead rails and changes your position between levels; it is a movement tool with specific attachment points, rather than a way to cling to any surface. Carry two weapons, switch to suit the threat and collect matching upgrades to improve their firepower. Side-scrolling action alternates with tunnel stages, giving movement and aiming different rhythms. Most hits cost a life, making careful positioning and learning enemy patterns essential.
