How to Play Cool World
Quick start
Move around the entire screen with the D-pad and enter doors with Up. Hold A for a higher jump and steer in midair to reach ledges. Press SELECT until the pen is active, then tap B—twice if one tap is missed—to use it on Doodles; conserve erasers and bombs for obstacles that require them. Check every accessible doorway for the map fragment, but remember that some exits lead directly to spike pits.
Controls
D-pad moves Frank horizontally and vertically within the playfield; Up also enters doors and windows. A jumps, with jump height based on how long it is held, and the D-pad steers in midair. SELECT cycles pen, eraser and bomb. Tap B to use the selected item; hold B to duck and drop through certain holes. START pauses and resumes.
Cool World — About this game
Cool World for the US NES is a maze-like action game based on the film. Detective Frank Harris must recover five fragments of a map that links the real world with the animated Cool World. Each stage is a broad playfield with doors, windows, elevated routes and hostile Doodles rather than a simple left-to-right course. Frank selects a pen, eraser or bomb, uses those items to remove threats and searches for the required map piece before reaching the correct exit. Six hearts measure health, while sweets and other pickups support exploration.
