How to Play 2nd Super Robot Wars
Quick start
On the first map, select each unit with A and inspect its movement and weapon reach before committing it. Put sturdier machines near the front and keep longer-range allies behind them so one pilot is not surrounded during the enemy phase. Since only the unit making a kill earns experience, weaken targets with stronger veterans and give safe finishing blows to machines you want to develop. Open the map command from an empty square and save before ending a risky turn.
Controls
D-pad: move the map cursor and navigate choices. A: select a unit or command, advance dialogue, and open the map menu from an empty square. B: cancel or leave a command; hold B while moving the D-pad to make the cursor travel at maximum speed immediately. SELECT: cycle available targets when attacking. START: choose an item on the title screen and begin; A also confirms there. The turn-based map has no separate pause command.
2nd Super Robot Wars — About this game
2nd Super Robot Wars is a turn-based strategy RPG that brings machines and characters from several robot anime into one Famicom campaign. You move individual units across grid maps, choose attacks from their limited weapon lists, use special abilities and defeat the Divine Crusaders commanded by Bian Zoldark. In this original version, a unit gains experience only when it destroys an enemy, so deciding who lands each finishing blow is a major part of team development. Weapons do not consume ammunition or energy, but range, accuracy, terrain and enemy positioning still determine whether an attack is worthwhile. The game does not display enemy movement ranges, demanding cautious spacing before the opposing phase.
