How to Play Defender of the Crown
Quick start
On the strategy map, move the cursor with the D-pad and confirm choices with A. Build enough soldiers and knights before attacking a neighboring territory. During a raid, advance and retreat with Left/Right, attack with A, and use Up+A to parry. In jousts, adjust the lance aim with the D-pad and concentrate on a stable target point rather than making a late correction.
Controls
Menus and map: D-pad moves the cursor; A selects or locks a transfer, then Left/Right changes troop numbers. Raid sword fight: Left/Right advance or retreat, A attacks, Up+A parries. Joust: D-pad aims the lance; A confirms/advances where prompted. Other battle and siege choices are selected through their on-screen menus.
Defender of the Crown — About this game
Defender of the Crown blends turn-based conquest with several direct-action contests. As a Saxon lord, you recruit soldiers and knights, move armies across England, besiege castles, and defend your own lands from Norman rivals. Raids become side-view sword fights, tournaments test lance placement, and field battles reward careful use of troops. Gold, territory, reputation, and the survival of your army all feed the same campaign, so reckless heroics can undermine the strategic map.
