How to Play Dropzone

Quick start

Use short directional taps until the jetpack's acceleration and braking feel predictable. Stay low enough to see scientists, but climb before crowded enemy passes so you have room to reverse. Shoot abductors early, collect a dropped scientist, and return to base before chasing distant targets. Save B bombs for screens where several threats converge, and use SELECT's cloak briefly to escape a collision rather than draining it during ordinary travel. Record each password shown between later stages.

Controls

D-pad: fly in four directions; horizontal movement accelerates and requires opposite input to slow or reverse, while vertical input counters gravity. A: fire the standard weapon. B: detonate a limited smart bomb. SELECT: activate the energy-limited cloak. START: pause or resume. Carry rescued scientists back to the base by contacting them and returning safely.

Dropzone — About this game

Dropzone is a fast horizontally scrolling rescue shooter set above Jupiter's moon Io. The player pilots a jetpack-equipped operative across a wraparound battlefield, intercepting alien waves before they abduct scientists from the surface. Survivors must be picked up and delivered to the base rather than merely defended from a distance, creating constant tension between pursuit, rescue, and safe return. Momentum and gravity shape movement, while ordinary fire handles routine threats, limited smart bombs clear emergencies, and an energy-consuming cloak provides temporary protection. The European NES edition retains the arcade-like 99-level structure and adds passwords for resuming later sectors.
