How to Play E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial: Escape from Planet Earth
Quick start
Enter a name for a new game and choose OK. On the map, ride to a spinning bottle-cap icon to enter a puzzle. Move E.T. with the D-pad and use A after obtaining a special power icon. In a question-mark puzzle, use B to switch characters, A for Elliott's jump and pushing movement to shift rocks. Bring both characters out.
Controls
The D-pad moves characters and the bike. A uses E.T.'s pods, makes Elliott jump or returns to previous text. B makes the bike fly, advances text or switches E.T./Elliott in shared question-mark puzzles. SELECT opens inventory; START opens pause/save. The action depends on the current screen.

Bottle-cap puzzles ask E.T. to work alone, while question-mark puzzles combine both characters. A collected green power icon gives E.T. an ability such as crossing an obstacle, freezing water or distracting an enemy. In the shared puzzles, both E.T. and Elliott must reach the exit. Plan each character's route before moving objects into a place that leaves the other behind, then return to the bicycle journey with the items you need.
