How to Play Elite

Quick start

From Lave, inspect nearby systems, buy an inexpensive cargo and launch. In flight, steer with the D-pad and fire with A. Hold B and use the D-pad to change speed or move across the icon bar, then release or tap B to activate the selected command. Practise docking through the paid auto-dock option before risking manual approaches.

Controls

D-pad in flight: pitch and roll. A: fire the fitted laser. Hold B + D-pad: shift to speed adjustment or move the icon-bar pointer; B activates the highlighted icon. The selected icon exposes navigation, market, missile, ECM, docking and other context-sensitive commands. NES Elite uses one controller and does not allow steering while changing speed.

Elite — About this game

Elite on NES condenses the landmark open-ended space simulation onto one controller without discarding its trading, piracy, bounty hunting or exploration. You begin at Lave with a basic Cobra, limited fuel and 100 credits, then buy low, sell high and improve the ship while working towards the Elite combat rank. The PAL conversion uses an icon bar for keyboard-style commands, adds multi-language presentation and even offers paid auto-docking when no docking computer is fitted.
