Press START on the title screen. If it's your first time, it's safe to check the striking and grappling challenges in Dojo mode and then move on to Match mode or Group management mode. In the ring, use B, A, and A+B weak, medium, and strong attacks to wear down the opponent, and the moment they grapple, input a technique of the same strength. If you only aim for big moves from the beginning, you're likely to get hit back, so build up the weaker moves step by step and aim for a fall by pressing A next to the fallen opponent.

Use the cross button to move players and select menu items. A is a blow, a grapple, or a fall to a downed opponent, B is a blow, a rope swing, or picks up a weapon outside the arena, and A+B is a strong blow/strong grapple. L is for defense/return, R is for running, SELECT is for appeal, and START is for pause. The combination of direction and A/B changes the technique depending on the position, and the menu is confirmed with A and canceled with B.
