At the title screen press START, choose New Game and a data slot with the D-Pad and A, then enter the opening world. Follow the Gold Coin Path toward the level goal, but inspect side routes for hidden items and a better grade. Walk and jump cautiously through the first platforming section, collecting coins and speaking or listening to allies when prompted. Progress is password-based from the Main Menu, so note the password shown when you want to resume later.

In menus, the D-Pad highlights, A confirms and B cancels; START pauses. On land, the D-Pad walks, runs, crouches, climbs and looks up or down; A jumps, B attacks and L throws stones. R opens the collectibles view. While swimming, the D-Pad moves in four directions, B attacks, A swims fast in later stages and L drops stones. The manual notes that additional specialised commands appear as later levels introduce them.
