Contact with visible enemies shifts exploration into a separate action battle, where waiting for the enemy and striking from a better angle is safer than charging straight in. Treasure chests supply equipment and springs refill healing water. Remember those recovery points as you investigate the tower, since the final rescue also demands a quick escape.
