How to Play FIFA Soccer 97
Quick start
Choose a single match, select teams and use short halves. At kickoff press A or B, then practise A passes before a B shot.
Controls
Directional pad: move. A: offense: pass toward pad direction; defense: change player. B: offense: shoot with pad aim; defense: burst of speed.

On defense the buttons switch the controlled player or provide a burst of speed, so their purpose differs from attacking. Aim set pieces with the pad and adjust match options before kickoff. Building a passing route gives a clearer chance than simply chasing the ball toward goal.
