Initial D Gaiden starts with Itsuki choosing a car and taking on mountain-road rivals in a story separate from the manga's main route. Finishing scenarios opens further perspectives, including Bunta, Natsuki and Takumi. Steering, braking and manual gear changes share the small control pad, so a narrow bend demands more than holding the accelerator. Time Attack provides another reason to return to a course once its corners become familiar.
