How to Play Othello
Quick start
Press START, set black to YOU and white to COM 1, then choose Game Start. Move the cursor to a legal square that brackets white discs and confirm A. Use SELECT’s submenu to inspect replay or editing options after learning the opening moves.
Controls
D-pad: cursor and menu choices. A: place disc or confirm. B: cancel. SELECT: open submenu during play/replay. B+START: pause. START at title opens the menu.
Othello — About this game
Place black or white discs to bracket the opponent’s line and turn every enclosed disc to your colour. The final majority matters more than an early lead, so each move can change control of several lines at once. Configure each side as a human or one of four computer strengths, set a thinking-time limit and study the result through replay. The position editor also lets you examine a chosen board instead of always starting from the standard opening. Press START, set black to YOU and white to COM 1, then choose Game Start. Move the cursor to a legal square that brackets white discs and confirm A. Use SELECT’s submenu to inspect replay or editing options after learning the opening moves.
