How to Play Shougi
Quick start
Press START at the title and select a normal match or prepared problem. Use the D-Pad and A to choose a piece and destination. B cancels a choice or opens the captured-piece selection for a drop. Begin by checking the pieces’ characters and the king’s protection before sending attackers forward.

D-Pad: move the cursor. A: confirm choices, piece selection and destination. B: cancel or choose a captured piece to drop. START at the title: open the mode menu.
Shougi — About this game
Choose a full match or a prepared problem and use the pieces’ different movements to trap the opposing king on a nine-by-nine board. Captured pieces become reserves you can drop back into play, so a trade can create a new threat somewhere far from the original clash. The display abbreviates pieces to single characters and keeps the reserves beside the board. Play the computer or another person, review earlier moves and practice from the sixty prepared situations. Before attacking, check both the king’s escape squares and the drops your opponent still holds.
