Total Carnage puts a lone soldier into scrolling overhead battlefields crowded by approaching enemies. Keep moving to leave a route out of the next wave, then turn to fire when the line is clear. Weapon pickups can change the answer to a group, but a useful item is not worth becoming trapped between enemies and the edge of the screen. Larger encounters demand steady attention to both target and escape space. Clearing what lies ahead works best when the position you choose also leaves somewhere to stand after the next enemy arrives.
