Choose Amateur for an easier first season, then use the Practice Pond before committing entry money to a three-day tournament. Buy enough tackle at the dock, select an angler, and use the trolling motor to approach cover without overshooting it. Cast past the target, retrieve the lure according to its listed action, and listen for the crunch of a strike. Press Down at once to set the hook. During the fight, reel with A or B and steer against the fish’s run; watch both the fish-strength and angler-strength indicators so you do not force the line when the fish is still fresh.

While driving, Up moves the boat forward, Down reverses, Left or Right steers, B toggles the trolling motor, A opens the option menu, and C readies the rod. To cast, press C, aim the fishing pole with the D-pad, and press C again. When a fish strikes, press Down to set the hook. Reel normally with A or B, press A+B together for a quick retrieve, or tap A for an even faster retrieve. If the fish runs away from the boat, press Left or Right to turn it back. A+C activates automatic reel-in, but the manual warns that using it with a fish hooked may break the line.
