Start with the Practice Pond before entering a tournament. At the dock, visit the Bait Shop to prepare your lure and line, then use the fish finder or visible cover to choose a promising area. Drive carefully into position and cast beyond the spot so the lure can work through it. Animate the lure with B plus the direction required by its type; when you hear the strike sound, press Down immediately to set the hook. Reel steadily with A, and when the fish runs away from the boat, press C plus the opposite direction to turn it without overworking the line.

At the dock and in menus, use the D-pad to highlight a location or item and Start to select. In the boat, A drives forward, B reverses, and Left or Right steers. To cast, press C to activate the aiming marker, position it with the D-pad, then press B. While fishing, hold B with a direction to animate the selected lure: Up for a popper, Down for a worm, Left or Right for a spinner, or A+B for a propeller lure. Press Down as soon as a fish bites to set the hook. Tap A to reel faster. If the hooked fish moves away, hold C with the opposite direction to turn it. A+C automatically retrieves the lure, but can snap the line with a fish hooked.
