Choose Normal Game, then select Batman or Robin and equip the available gadgets for the first level. The six-button controller gives the clearest layout: use A and X for punches, C and Z for kicks, B to block and Y for the grappling hook. Press Up to jump, use Up with Left or Right for a flip, and practise the hook before searching vertical rooms. Enemies shift the game into close combat, so block first and answer with low or high attacks instead of mashing. Search each stage for stolen blueprint pieces, which unlock extra gadgets for later levels.

With a six-button pad, the D-pad walks, crouches and jumps: Up jumps, Up+Left/Right flips and Down crouches. A is the middle punch, X the high punch, C the middle kick, Z the high kick, B blocks and Y fires the grappling hook; Down modifies punches, kicks and blocks into low moves. Double-tap toward an enemy and press B to grab, then press away to throw. Start pauses. The game also supports a three-button pad, but high attacks, back attacks and gadgets then require the directional combinations printed in the manual; gadget commands vary by the item equipped.
