Advance slowly with Arthur and treat every weapon pickup as a real choice: the lance is predictable, while other weapons alter range and trajectory. Armour allows a hit before Arthur is reduced to underwear, so recover replacement armour whenever possible and avoid jumping into unseen enemies. Fire upward or diagonally before climbing into a platform, kneel under high projectiles, and learn each boss pattern instead of attacking from the centre. The game supports alternating two-player turns rather than simultaneous co-op. Use Practice or the easier setting to learn enemy placement, because committing to a jump cannot be corrected freely in mid-air.

Left and Right move Arthur; Down kneels, and the D-pad also chooses options, climbs and directs attacks. B fires the equipped weapon in the held direction. A or C jumps when combined with Up or a horizontal direction, and either button confirms options. During a downward jump, press B+C to fire below. Start opens the option screen, begins play, pauses and resumes. The control scheme rewards deliberate inputs: point the D-pad first, then fire, and avoid holding a direction through a landing unless you intend to continue moving.
