From the Great Hall, tackle the Trouble, Fireball and Shield quests before attempting the Black Knight route. Start with Fireball or Shield to earn the spell and protection that make later rooms safer. Movement is intentionally weighty: stop before stairs, aim every throw and avoid leaping blindly onto a lower step. Rock bags increase ammunition, elixirs sustain Duncan and keys or chains open routes. Clear nearby creatures before pulling a lever or collecting an item. The throwing arm has several angles, so adjust it with Up or Down and watch the arc before spending scarce rocks.

Left and Right walk; diagonals climb stairs, ladders or vines. A jumps and also changes highlighted pause-menu settings. B ducks or raises the shield; hold Down+B to pick up an item, use it or pull a chain. Up and Down adjust Duncan’s throwing arm, and C throws a rock or fireball at the selected angle. Start pauses and resumes. In the Great Hall, Left/Right selects a door and C enters it. When paused, Up/Down moves between difficulty, sound and music settings, while A with Left/Right changes the current value.
