Create a balanced four-character party with a fighter in front and spellcasters behind, buy food and basic equipment, then speak to every resident of the castle. In outdoor exploration, map landmarks and return before supplies run out. Dungeons switch to first-person movement: check walls for doors, rest only in safe rooms, and use missile weapons or spells before monsters reach the party. Save before entering a new cave.

D-pad: move the party and select menus; in dungeons, Up advances and Left/Right turns. A/C: confirm, talk, examine, attack, or open the command menu. B: cancel. Start: party/status screen. Combat commands cover melee, missile, spells, items, defence, and retreat; formation determines who can attack at close range.
